Wednesday is RNA-QC day - starting in September
Assessing the integrity of RNA samples with the Bioanalyzer can be time consuming and expensive since each run takes an hour and only 12 RNA can samples can be run.
To make RNA QC more convenient and affordable we will be running one or more batches of RNA samples every Wednesday afternoon starting in September.
For UC Davis labs the cost per sample will be $5 (with a minimum of $10).

We have received an unexpected large number of submissions for library prep projects. Thus, the library prep queue is currently longer than usual (about 8 weeks). The sequencing queues are not affected and the sequencing turnaround times are fast (one to two weeks).

The 10X Genomics Single Cell system is the single-cell expression profiling platform enabling the analysis of large cell numbers at the highest capture efficiency (of up to 65%).
Illumina published a white paper today on the barcode mis-assignment issue (Illumina calls it somewhat euphemistically "barcode hopping").
In contrast to the Sinha et al. paper, which only presented data for libraries with NextSeq adapter sequences, the white paper shows that the issue is also relevant for TruSeq style adapters.
